The Menu at Strong Water Tavern is like nothing I've ever seen before. I mean, I've been to tapas restaurants before and to be honest...I haven't always been the biggest fan of them. You order a bunch of pretty tiny food for a ton of money and wind up leaving hungry and broke. That is not the case with this place.
If you like any type of Latin food, you will love Strong Water. From Cuban, Colombian and Jamaican to Puerto Rican and Haitian... You can dine on ceviche of all types. If meat is your jam, they have everything from goat, to beef, to chicken and lamb. ( No, I wasn't trying to make that rhyme.
If you LOVE seafood and want to try a little of everything, the Trio Peruvian Fish Ceviche (pictured below) is something you can share with the table so everyone gets a taste. Golden Seabass, Garlic Aji Amarillo, Rocotto Crema, Salsa Verde, Corn and Sweet Potato that you can pass back and forth over wine and cocktails is my idea of a happy hour.
However, if you love to snack while you drink you may need to order a few things. I wouldn't say the portions are small, but they are not full sized. I was able to eat the Colombian Vegan Arepas (pictuerd below) made with Kissimmee River Mushrooms (I promise you would swear it's pulled chicken) and I was full after two of those.
Of course, I can't just eat that..I mean, I'm at Strong Water...when you go there, you order a few things and share. My husband ordered the Seafood Tostada (pictured below) which has Shrimp, Scallop, Snapper, Red Onion, Garlic, Avocado, Cilantro Crema on a tostito shell and it's out of this world. If we weren't dressed so nice and in such a high class place, I probably would have taken it from him and shoved it into my mouth all at once. I believe that's frowned upon and I'd like to show my face there again.
They have some of the best fish tacos I've ever had. Now, I know that's a heavy statement. I wasn't always a fan of fish tacos, until I had them here, that is. Their Fish Tacos (not pictured) are a bit different with Mahi, Cilantro, Avocado, Red Onion, Cabbage Slaw and Chipotle Mayo. It comes with 2 per order, so It's not like you're just getting one measly taco. Some places will have a taco happy hour and it's per taco...you get two with this and they are a decent size.
Overall, the food is delicious and the service was great. The atmosphere is really cool with maps on the walls, televisions and rum barrels. OH! and they give you this addictive snack mix when you order your drinks that I'm pretty sure I'd order by the bulk if I could.
So, the big question...did I have white or red wine? This night I had the Banfi “Le Rime”, Tuscany, IT
I'm sure you're shocked.
